Cylinder Block Machining 

Diesel and Petrol cylinder blocks from a small single cylinder two stroke to the largest diesel engines used in the Automotive, Earthmoving, Industrial, Marine, Power Generation and Trucking industries can be accomodated.  

 

At HM GEM we utilise the latest available engine remanufacturing machines and practices, one example of this is the Rottler CNC F90 series cylinder block machining centre. This machine has the capacity to machine the largest off higway high horsepower diesel cylinder blocks, including Caterpillar's V16 3516, Cummins K50 and QSK78, Deutz MWM 620, Detroit MTU series 4000 and Waukesha`s 7042 engine, to name a few.

 

The Rottler F90 series CNC machining centre is only one of the machines we have that will ensure precision bore and surface finishes are acheived every time. Please  refer to our workshop locations section to better familarise yourself with  our national machining capacabilities. 

 

Cylinder Block Cleaning 

All cylinder blocks have welsh and gallery plugs removed prior to the chemical cleaning process taking place.

Cylinder Block Inspection

All relevant areas are crack tested and measured, including main tunnel and main tunnel centre line heights, deck and counter bore recess areas are also checked to Original Equipment Manufacturers (O.E.M) tolerances. Opening and closing written reports can be supplied if required.

Cylinder Block Top Deck Machining

Cylinder blocks as large as the, Caterpillar 35 series V16 and a Cummins QSK78 can be accomodated. All Cylinder block machining is carried out on the latest available engine remanufacturing equipment. Cylinder Block milling, counter bore recess machining, stainless steel water passage inserting, liner seat inserting, lower liner seal inserting and cam follower bore inserting can all be carried out as required.

Cylinder Block Tunnel Boring

Cylinder block main tunnel machining can also be carried out where they do not meet reuseability guidelines. Main bearing cap relocating, milling, spot facing, doweling, parting line milling and thrust face machining to original manufactures tolerances are all available where required.

Cylinder Block Preparation

On completion of machining  all cylinder blocks are subjected to a final quality inspection. Machined components are rinsed to remove any excess machining residue. Cam bush, gallery plug and welsh plug fitting can be carried out at the customers request. Finally all machined surfaces are prepared and preserved for final shipping.
